Rule by Strength
"All under heaven will be ruled by strength." When Nobunaga renamed his land to Gifu, he began using the motto "Rule by Strength." Gifu was named after the kingdom of the ancient Chinese King Wen of Zhou, a testament to Nobunaga's ambitions. With Gifu as his home base, he spent the next 15 years conquering Japan until he was assassinated at Honnoji, ending his reign.
